480,553. Lapping valves and valve seatings. BABCOCK & WILCOX, Ltd., and GIBSON, J. H. March 19, 1937. No. 8117. [Class 60] A tool for use in lapping the disc faces of valves on their seatings, for example, in parallel slide valves, comprises a spindle 1, which is slidably and rotatably inserted in the bore 8 of the valve 7, having at its inner end an eccentric projection 3 engaging in the male valve disc 10, so that, by rotation of the spindle by means 'of the squared end 2 thereof and a brace &c., the valve is moved over its seating 9. For lapping the female disc on its seating, the projection 3 has therein a recess 4 to receive a projection 5 on an attachment 6, which is inserted in the disc. The projection 3 may have a recess therein to engage a pintle on the female valve disc, or a recess for that purpose may be formed in the spindle, which then has no eccentric part 3.
