Abstract
480,301. Indicating liquid - levels. DEWRANCE, SIR J. July 16, 1937, No. 19813. [Class 123 (i)] In apparatus for indicating abnormally high or low levels in boilers and the like, of the type in which the equilibrium of a pair of linked floats is disturbed by a varying degree of immersion, separate indicators for high and low levels are operated by separate pairs of floats. In Fig. 1, when water rises to the high level B, the float 1 is partly submerged so that its apparent weight is decreased, and a high level whistle, actuated by a 'link 5, comes into operation. The float 2 is always submerged and the float 6 is not reached. When water falls to the low level C, the float 7 is partly uncovered so that its weight is increased, and a low level whistle is actuated by the link 10. The high level system is not affected. The float 6a is carried by links from opposite ends 18, 19 of a pair of cross-bars 20, 21. The other ends are connected by a diagonal member 26 from the centre of which depends a rod attached to the float 7a. In a similar manner, the float 1a is suspended by links 29 to the ends 31, 32 of a pair of cross - bars 33, 34. The other ends are connected by a diagonal member 39 from the centre of which depends a rod 13 passing through the floats 6a, 1a, 7a and secured to the float 2a. The high and low level alarm whistles have distinctive notes.
