Abstract

<PICT:0480215/III/1> Lime is slaked in apparatus comprising a fan washer 6 into which dust-laden steam from the hydrator 8 passes by way of a conduit 7 and which is connected on its delivery side to an eliminator 5 supplied with water from a main supply 1 controlled in accordance with the temperature in the hydration vessel, which may be registered by indicating means 8a. The dust-laden steam is washed in the fan casing by liquid circulated by a pump 11a from the bottom of a tank 9, to which drainage from the eliminator and fan casing flows. An overflow pipe 14 feeds recovered milk of lime to a premixer 17 to which lime is delivered in predetermined quantities and the mixture passes to the hydrator 8 from a high level in which the slaked lime passes over an adjustable weir.
