678,935. Apparatus for aerating liquids. DENNIS, W. J. Nov. 6, 1950 [Sept. 6, 1949], No. 23006/49. Class 8 (i) Apparatus for supplying air to aerate a liquid comprises a closed vessel 1 having a liquid inlet tube 2 and an air inlet tube 4 the lower ends of which connect with a trough 7 disposed in the upper portion of the vessel, an air outlet tube 5, and a syphon 3 which is actuated automatically at a predetermined level of liquid in the vessel for emptying it, the ends of the air inlet and outlet tubes within the vessel being located above the level of the syphon take-off. The liquid is supplied from a pipe 9 through a reservoir 8 having an overflow pipe 10. The syphon has a flared end 6 with which the trough may be integral. The reservoir may be dispensed with and the liquid supplied direct from a tap through a valve or restriction. The air outlet tube may include a trap such as a Drechsel bottle to reduce the " suck-back " of liquid during syphoning. The Provisional Specification also refers to a non-return valve being fitted in the air outlet tube.
