[Class 46] [Also in Groups II and XVIII] In proportioning sodium metaphosphate, preferably hexametaphosphate, to water flowing in a conduit, water flows from the conduit through pipes 24, 22 into the upper portion of a chamber 9 containing a saturated solution of the salt and returns to the conduit through an opening 17 with a check valve 18, a mixing chamber 13 with baffles 14, a passage 19 in the cover 1, a nipple 20 with a calibrated nozzle and a pipe 21. The chamber 9 communicates through openings 7 with an annular chamber 6<SP>1</SP> containing solid metaphosphate for maintaining the saturated solution, part of the liquid flowing from the chamber 9 outside the chamber 13 and over the top of a cylindrical member 11 into the chamber 6<SP>1</SP>. 'The wall 6 is preferably transparent. In a modification (Fig. 3, not shown), the cover 1 comprises a pipe 26 connected in the conduit and fitted with inlet and outlet nozzles 27, 28 for diverting part of the flow, the nozzles being accessible, through a detachable cover 29. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also the proportioning of chemicals to liquids in general, a slotted pipe 36, Fig. 11 (Cancelled) and a bent pipe 37 with a non-return valve 38, Fig. 12 (Cancelled) for guiding the liquid from the pipe 22 to the opening 17, the application of the devices to water supply from wells, the inlet pipe 24 of the device shown in Fig 1 extending slightly into, and the outlet pipe 21 down to the lower end of, the pump pipe 31, Fig. 8 (Cancelled) and a modification of the device, Figs. 5 and 7 (Cancelled), in which the storage chamber 6a is arranged beside the mixing chamber 13 and the pipes 24a, 17a, leading to and from the chamber 9, and adjustable in length. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
