8912. McLaren, A. June 17. Nozzles with chambers containing chemicals.- Relates to a fitting for a hose-pipe, syringe, watering-can, &c. by which the liquid in the pipe &c. can either be used in its natural state or be impregnated with an insecticide, disinfectant, &c. The fitting consists of a main pipe and a branch compartment, which contains the disinfectant &c. and is connected to the pipe in such a way that the flow may be through the pipe, or through the chamber, or through both. In the form shown, the main pipe 1 is connected to the chamber 4<a> by branches 5, 6 provided with cocks. A cock is also arranged at 8. The chamber 4<a> contains a block of chemical substance 13 fixed to a square tube, which slides on a squared spindle 14<a> carrying at one end a plate 17 with vanes 18 for rotating it. A removable cap 10 with a strainer 22 is arranged at the other end. Rollers on arms 20, or brushes may be used to rub off the surface of the block 13, which may be shaped with vanes for rotating it. In a modification, the block is fixed, and in another form, the block is replaced by a gauze cylinder containing pieces of the chemical used, and this cylinder may have helical impeller blades. Air may be drawn in along with the water in known manner. The fitting is stated to be applicable to apparatus for colouring liquids, photographic processes, water-softening, bleaching, and fire-extinguishing.
