470,873. Treating sewage. BOLTON, J. F. April 17, 1936, No. 11026. [Class 111] A surface aeration plant of the type described in Specifications 166,385 and 225,076, [both in Class 111], in which an aeration tank a is used with an uptake pipe b at the upper end of which an impeller works to induce a flow of liquid, and to spread the same in the aeration tank has the impeller in the form of an inverted truncated cam c which has shallow ribs, projections, flutes, grooves or channels or like roughening c<1> on its under surface. It operates in the flared top b<2> of the pipe b and is adjustably mounted on a screw-threaded shaft m<2> driven by a motor m and preferably carrying at its extreme end an adjustable propeller d by which sludge from the settling place g<1> of a sludge settling tank g can be drawn and dispersed into the upper end of the pipe b.
