Abstract

515,577. Transmitting liquid-borne solids. PULSOMETER ENGINEERING CO., Ltd., and PRICE, A. V. June 7, 1938, No. 16814. [Class 102 (ii)] Apparatus for transmitting liquid-borne solid and buoyant matter comprises an intercepting chamber, a storage receptacle for the liquid, and a plate or cover to the intercepting chamber forming a weir which enables the liquid to pass into the receptacle whilst retaining solid and buoyant matter within the intercepting chamber. In the form shown, the inlet sewer B is fitted with a valve B<1> and leads into the intercepting chamber C in which the solid and buoyant matter is retained. The liquid passes over a weir D to a pipe E leading to a storage chamber formed by the lower end of the cylindrical vessel A. The inclined cover plate F may be adjustable to vary the weir, and its central part F' may be formed with ventilation openings. Rising of a float L operates a switch K controlling the electric motor J<1> of a centrifugal pump J so that the liquid is forced up the pipe E under pressure. The solid and buoyant material accumulated in the intercepter C is thereby entrained and expelled through a delivery pipe G fitted with valves H, H'.
