Abstract

Fluoro-sulphonic acid is obtained by the reaction of sulphur trioxide with hydrofluoric acid, one of the said reactants being kept by cooling in the liquid state while the other reactant is introduced in the gaseous state below the level of the liquid. According to an example, gaseous hydrogen fluoride is introduced through a chromium steel tube below the level of liquid sulphur trioxide kept in an aluminium vessel at 30--35 DEG C.
