Abstract
In a method of obtaining titanium from titanium chloride, a bath consisting of fused alkali halide or alkaline earth halide or both, particularly potassium chloride, is covered with a layer of molten alkali metal and maintained at a high temperature, which may be 700-900 DEG C., and titanium chloride, preferably tetrachloride, is added, for example by introducing it in vapour form into the fused salt bath. The operation may be carried out in an inert atmosphere such as hydrogen.
