Abstract
Titanium is produced by introducing a gaseous titanium halide into a liquid alloy consistng of at least one alkali or alkaline earth metal and one or more of the metals zinc, cadmium and lead. The liquid alloy may be covered with an alkali or alkaline earth metal chloride melt, e.g. carnallite, from which the titanium formed may be pumped continuously or intermittently. The process may be carried out continuously by causing the liquid alloy to flow through the reaction chamber with the aid of induction currents or by mechanical means.
