478,606. Coupling vehicles. MACINDOE, J. D., and CLARKE, F. A. Sept. 14, 1936, Nos. 24951/36 and 3564/37. [Class 103 (v)] [Also in Groups XXV and XIV] Means for connecting two members 10, 18 comprises a pair of bell-cranks 14, 15 pivoted on a common axis 13 on the member 10, and adapted, when the member 10 is pushed towards the member 18, to be turned by the edges of a hole 23 in a plate 24 on the member 18, so that the arms 14a, 15a, assume the position shown in Fig. 2, while the arms 14b, 15b, engage the under side of the plate 24. A retaining sleeve 19 is then moved down by a spring 20 to lock the arms 14a, 15a. To disconnect, the sleeve 19 is raised to release the arms, and the member 10 is pulled away from the member 18. In another form, the member 18 is formed by the parallel plates separated by distance pieces and provided with coaxial apertures through which the end of the member 10 passes when the latter is pushed down to move the levers 14, 15 to locking position. The levers are turned by engagement of their leading curved edges with the surface of the lower plate. In a modification of this form, the lower end of the member 10 is forked and carries a crosspin between which and the lower plate a locking pin may be inserted; or a locking pin may be inserted in a spring collar arranged on the member 10 above the sleeve 19. The locking member 19 may be replaced by manual or power-operated levers &c. The fastening may be used for coupling vehicles.
