Abstract
455,420. Automatic couplings for vehicles. WOHLDORF, H., 41, Schleusberg, Neumuenster, Germany. March 23, 1936, No. 8629. Convention date, Feb. 15. [Class 103 (v)] In an automatic coupling for road &c. vehicles a draw-bar 6 on one vehicle is adapted to enter between the arms 2, 3 of a forked coupling- member on the other vehicle and to be engaged by an arcuate pin 14, preferably of circular cross-section, guided within a correspondingly curved guide 8 on the arm 2, the pin 14 in the operative position also engaging an opening 13 formed in the arm 3 as a continuation of the guide 8. In the inoperative position shown the pin 14 is supported by a locking-lever 22 engaging a recess 21 at the lower end of the pin ; the lever being forced inwardly against the pressure of a spring 14 by the tip 27 of the draw-bar 6 and permitting a spring 91 to slide the pin 14 into engagement with the eye 5. For releasing purposes the pin 14 is provided with a hand-knob 16, the securing- pin 15 of which slides within a slot 17 in the guide 8, a cover plate 18 moving with the pin 14 and knob 16 to cover the slot when the coupling is effected.
