Abstract
338,460. Ade, A. Feb. 17, 1930. Couplings for road vehicles.-In automatic couplings of the kind in which a bolt 3, carried by a funnel shaped fitting on a tractor and supported in a raised or cocked position by a catch, is released and drops into coupling position when the end of the drawbar 8 on the trailer, entering the funnel, presses against the catch, an automatic locking device is provided to prevent accidental dislodgement of the bolt 3 from the coupling position. The bolt 3 is normally raised to uncouple or reset the device by an arm 6 on a shaft 14 rocked by means of an arm 16, the arm 6 being retained in the raised position against the pull of a spring 5 by engagement therewith of the catch 7 drawn by a spring 9. The means for locking the bolt in the coupling position comprises a spring pressed pin 10 adapted to engage a slot or recess 11 in the bolt and to be withdrawn therefrom by the initial movement of the shaft 14, the head of a pin 13, coupling the arm 6 to the shaft with lost motion, engaging an arm 12 on the pin for this purpose.
