Abstract

477,468. Vacuum reliefvalves. GRESHAM & CRAVEN, Ltd., GRESHAM, J. N., and FOSTER, R. G. Aug. 7, 1936, No. 21774. [Class 135] A relief-valve for vacuum systems such as the train pipe of vacuum braking systems has a piston type valve member exposed on its opposite sides to the pressure in the vacuum system and the atmospheric pressure and adapted in its closed position to engage an annular seat to effect a seal against leakage. In the form shown, the valve spindle q is tapered where it passes through the annular seat d and is provided with a guide piston n working in a cylinder o formed integrally with the valve seat. The valve is loaded towards its closed position by a light spring e surrounding the cylinder o and engaging an abutment f adjustably mounted on the valve spindle. A loose ball valve i retained in a recess by an arm secured in position by a screw is adapted to fall away from its seat and admit atmospheric air when the vacuum in the conduit falls below a predetermined minimum.
