Abstract

943,491. Driver's valves for vacuum brakes. KNORR-BREMSE G.m.b.H. June 17, 1960 [June 20, 1959], No. 21427/60. Heading F2F. A driver's vacuum brake valve includes an actuating lever 3, a housing 1, a valve surface on plate 25 which co-operates with valve seats 21, 39, both seats being movable independently of each other and relative to housing 1, and a piston 47 acted on by a spring 53. On rotation of lever 3, spring 35 raises piston 9 and plate 25 to connect atmospheric chamber 45 to the train pipe via bore 41, valve 39, 25, chamber 31 and port 33; the created pressure acting in chamber 49 and eventually spring 53 raises piston 47 and stem 37 to close valve 39, 25. For brake release, lever 3 lowers piston 9 to open valve 21, 25 and connect a vacuum source to the train pipe via port 15, valve 25, 21 and chamber 31, vacuum in chamber 49 moving piston 47 to close valve 21, 25. Should a leak occur in the train pipe, the piston 47 rises to open valve 21, 25 to reset the vacuum level. The spring 53 is adjusted by screw 51 to set the train pipe pressure and by fitting stops for piston 47, the member 9 can be moved to maintain valve 21, 25 or 25, 39 open.
