Abstract

1,186,336. Valves. GRAY CO. Inc. 13 May, 1968 [15 May, 1967], No. 22612/68. Heading F2V. [Also in Division F1] A valve for venting the actuating chamber of a compressed air-actuated diaphragm pump (see Division F1), comprises a resilient valve disc 52 with a central portion engaging a seat 57 and an outer portion engaging a seat 58. Alternatively valve disc 52 may be replaced by two piston-type valves. In operation, when the air pressure in the actuating chamber acting through port 56 rises above a predetermined pressure, the central portion of the valve disc is moved away from seat 57 against spring 65 to expose the outer portion of the valve disc to pressure. The whole valve disc is then moved to the right against springs 65 and 62 to vent port 56 to atmosphere via port 22. When the pressure at port 56 drops to a predetermined pressure below the opening pressure, the valve disc is moved by the springs to its closed position. Spring 65 is stronger than spring 62, both springs being adjusted by screw 55 to set the operating pressure.
