Abstract
964,190. Valves. BENBOW MANUFACTURING CORPORATION. Aug. 17, 1962, No. 31618/62. Heading F2V. A combined pressure regulator and relief valve is provided with means whereby the relief valve can be opened manually without varying the loading of the regulator. A housing 11 is provided with an inlet 12, an outlet 14 and a chamber 17 bounded by a diaphragm 22. A valve member 40 is loaded by a spring 45 towards the closed position and has a stem 50 with a head 52 which normally engages a relief valve member 63. The valve member 40 is normally opened by a spring 30 acting on a diaphragm 22 to provide a constant outlet pressure in a known manner. If the outlet pressure exceeds a predetermined value, the valve 40 closes and the diaphragm lifts the member 63 to open a relief passage 64, 71. The member 63 is slidable in a housing 60 carried by the diaphragm and is normally held in the position shown by a rod 70 forcing balls 75 into a groove in the member 60. When the rod is raised, the balls move into a groove 68 of the rod and the member 63 is then moved with the rod 70 to open the relief passage thus draining the outlet side.
