Abstract
1,098,996. Valves. HALE, HAMILTON (VALVES) Ltd. June 9, 1966 [June 30. 1965], No. 27803/65. Heading F2V. The pressure-reducing valve member 31 controls flow from inlet 25 to outlet 27. The valve member is fast with a piston 34 subject on its underside to the outlet pressure. The other side of the piston (chamber 14) can be subjected to a loading pressure supplied from the inlet via passages 35, 38 through a manually operated valve 39 which is then set to seal the passages. In another position valve 39 vents the chamber 14 to allow the reducing valve to close. Excess inlet pressure after closing the valve member 31 lifts it sufficiently to open a lower vent passage 28 and connect the outlet to atmosphere. In a modification, Fig. 2 (not shown), the reducing valve is loaded by a spring. In another modification where the valve 39 is omitted the piston is pressurized from passage (35) through a needle valve (87) which is then closed to seal the chamber. The valve member has a cylindrical part 23 with an 0-ring which enters a cylindrical throat 15 to close the valve. A taper 31 on the valve member in co-operation with a tapered entry 32 of the throat defines a reducing orifice.
