Abstract
403,181. Fluid actuated valves. CONSOLIDATED BRAKE & ENGINEERING CO., Ltd., and PORTER, A. S., Windsor Works, Slough. Aug. 25, 1932, No. 23826. [Class 135.] Valves controlled by pilot or relay valves.- In the pressure regulating and reducing valve described and shown in Specification 177,195, [Class 135, Valves &c.], the lower pressure, in the train-pipe, which is applied to the space 16, is exhausted through a relief valve 19 if the pressure rises too high owing to leakages from the reservoir through the main valve 1. The relief valve is carried in a plunger 10 bearing against the diaphragm 7. The relief valve is urged towards the open position by a spring 20, but is normally prevented from opening by its stem 21, which abuts against the stem of the auxiliary valve 6. When the pressure in the train-pipe rises too high, it forces the diaphragm to the left from the position shown, so that the seat in the plunger 10 is withdrawn from the relief valve 19. Air then passes between the valve-stem 21 and the aperture in the diaphragm clamping-screw 23, past the neck 27 of the valve 19, and through ports 24, 26 to atmosphere. If, on the other hand, the pressure in the trainpipe falls too low, the diaphragm 7 is moved to the right by its spring 8, and, through the stem 21, opens the auxiliary valve 6, thus admitting high pressure from the conduit 13 through conduit 18, and behind the piston 2, which then opens the valve 1 and admits air to the conduit 14 connected to the train-pipe.
