Abstract
477,258. Elastic - fluid turbines. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. May 29, 1937, No. 14968. Convention date, May 29, 1936. [Class 110 (iii)] A high-pressure, high-temperature turbine has an inner casing 11 enclosing the blading and nozzles, and an outer casing 12. The space 13 between the two casings is under pressure from an intermediate turbine stage of, for instance, 500 lb. /sq. inch, if the fluid pressure inside the inner casing at the inlet end is 1000 lb./sq. inch. Working fluid enters a valve-chest 24, and is admitted to the inner casing through conduits 31, 32 and valves 26 ... 30. The conduits are welded at 35 to the caps 36, but allowed to slide through packing rings 38, 39. The rings 39. are spaced from the conduit 33 but touch the casing, and the rings 38 touch the conduit but are spaced from the casing. The rings are held in position by an end ring 40 held by a split ring 41. Each valve seat 47 is secured to the wall of the valvechest by a split ring 48 and a locking ring 49. The free ends of the valve seats extend through packing rings 50, 51, which are similar to the rings 38, 39.
