Abstract

219,695. British Thomson-Houston Co., Ltd., (Assignees of Junggren, 0.). July 27, 1923, [Convention date]. Axial-flow type; working-fluid supply; casings. -In a turbine in which the working fluid is reheated between stages, the casing is so constructed. that the fluid can be withdrawn and returned without materially increasing the length of the turbine, and that unequal expansion is allowed for. The enlarged portion 9, 14 of a multi-stage turbine casing is divided into annular chambers 11, 15 by ring-like members 8 and 10, 13. The chambers 11, 15 communicate reispeetively by sets of passages 12, 16 with adjacent stages 6, 7 and by conduits 17, 18 with the reheater. The members 8 and 10, 13 are fixed to the casing at 21 and 27 and have tongue-andgroove connections 24, 25, 29 with one another, a diaphragm 23, and the casing to allow of unequal expansion. The rings 8, 13 support the diaphragms which they surround. Steam is tapped in front of the stage 6 through passages 32, 31 to a chamber 30, whence it may be delivered as desired. The passage 32 is formed by spacing the ring 8 and the diaphragms 5 by pins.
