Abstract

476,158. Carbonizing - apparatus. KRUPP AKT.-GES., F. Aug. 4, 1937, No. 21484. Convention date, Aug. 19, 1936. [Class 55 (i)] In the production of lump coke by carbonizing fuel in the narrow vertical spaces 2 formed between the heating walls of a number of heating chambers 1, the fuel in each space is compacted into a movable frame 3 which is subdivided into compartments by walls 10 and is open at both sides so that the fuel is in direct contact with the heating walls. The frame has the width of the length of a side of the coke lump and may taper slightly with the corresponding taper of the distillation spaces. The heating chambers are enclosed in a casing the movable base 4 of which carries the frames and may be supported by ropes raised or lowered by means of lifting cylinders 9, or hinged to the side of the casing. In the latter case the frames are suspended from an upper cover 6. The apparatus may be modified so that the frames are introduced into the distillation spaces from above.
