474,932. Wireless receiving circuits. COLE, Ltd., E. K., and FALKUS, A. E. July 10, 1936, No. 19115. [Class 40 (v)] In a radio receiver having a cathode-ray tuning indicator and an amplifier valve which is used solely to operate the indicator when radio signals are being received, switching means are provided on gramophone reproduction to cause the amplifier to operate also as a signal amplifier. For wireless reception, the switches 1, 2, 3 are in their right-hand positions ; the junction of the signal diode load resistances R11, R12 is then connected over the volume control potentiometer VR1 to the grid of V3 and also over resistances R17, R15 to the grid of the triode portion of a combined amplifier and cathode-ray indicator V6, the triode anode being connected to the indicator deflecting plates, so that maximum signal causes minimum grid potential and maximum anode potential of triode V6, thereby causing maximum illumination of the indicator screen. On gramophone reproduction, switches 1, 2, 3 are over to the left, the pickup terminals G are connected to the input of triode V6, the bias of which is altered by switch 3 so that it functions as a low-frequency amplifier, while the indicator is raised to maximum illumination to show that the set is on " gramophone." A further switch may be conjointly operated with switches 1, 2, 3 to bias prohibitively the valves controlled from the A.V.C. network R9, R10 on gramophone reproduction.
