Abstract

451,056. Modulating systems. MARCONI'S WIRELESS TELEGRAPH CO., Ltd., Electra House, Victoria Embankment, and WALDEN, H. W. W., 6, Cranhurst Road, Cricklewood, both in London. March 11, 1935, No. 7567. [Class 40 (v)] A vibrating-electron oscillator of the retarding-field type is modulated by varying a capacity in shunt with a tuned circuit. As shown, the oscillator comprises two triode valves 1, 2, with their highlypositive grids connected to a tuned Lecher system 5, 6. The cathode leads 18, 19 may also be formed as a tuned Lecher pair. The plates are connected by a choke coil 11 which has its centre-point earthed. The plates are also connected through a Lecher system 13, 14 to a dipole aerial 15 and the variable modulating-capacity 20 is connected between the Lecher wires. The capacity comprises a vibratable diaphragm or plate adjacent to a fixed plate. The movable diaphragm may be of magnetic material vibrated by signal currents passing through coils on a magnet as in a telephone ear-piece ; or a moving-coil instrument may be used and the movable condenser plate connected to the moving-coil either directly or by a lever.
