Abstract
869,064. Frequency modulation. MURPHY RADIO Ltd. Dec. 19, 1958 [Dec. 19, 1957], No. 39543/57. Class 40(5). In a V.H.F. receiver for the alternative reception of amplitude or frequency modulated transmissions the final I.F. stage 8 has a narrower band-pass characteristic than the preceding I.F. stages and is arranged to be tunable by the operator. As shown, the output from the second frequency changer 1 of a receiver for television with accompanying amplitude modulated sound, or frequency modulated transmissions, is supplied via a transformer 3, which is designed to allow for drift and ease of tuning, to the control grid of a pentode 4, which with the switch 7 in the position shown receives A.G.C. bias over the line 5. A loosely coupled transformer 8 in the anode circuit of the valve 4 supplies a ratio detector 9, a resistor 16 being adjusted for maximum amplitude modulation rejection. The switches 7, 11, 14, are coupled together and in the position shown are set for amplitude modulation reception, the output of the detector 9 being supplied via a noise limiter 13 and screened line 15 to the audio frequency amplifier. The transformer 8 has an iron dust core in a plastic casing which is adjustable by a tuning knob.
