Abstract

Substantive dyes, dyeing with; regenerated celluloses, dyeing.--Cellulosic materials other than textiles, e.g. paper, pasteboard, films and sponges of regenerated cellulose, straw, cellulose pulp, linters and cottonwool, are dyed with sulphonic acids of phthalocyanines. In examples, (1) bleached sulphite cellulose pulp is dyed with the sodium salt of the product of sulphonation of copper phthalocyanine (cf. Specification 322,169, [Class 15 (ii)]), with 30 per cent fuming sulphuric acid and may then be sized with resin soap and aluminium sulphate and worked up into an evenly dyed brilliant blue paper; alternatively ready made paper may be dyed by dipping it into or passing it through an aqueous solution at 40 DEG C., of the sodium salt of the sulphonated dyestuff; the sulphonated iron, nickel, cobalt and aluminium phthalocyanines (cf. Specification 410,814) may similarly be used; (2) a film of regenerated cellulose is dyed a clear greenish blue by passing it through an aqueous solution at 100 DEG C. containing glycerol and the sodium salt of a sulphonated metal-free phthalocyanine and drying.
