Abstract

Printing.--Resist effects are obtained on a fabric made of cotton or other vegetable fibre or regenerated cellulose, in dyeing with ester salts of leuco vat dyestuffs (cf. Specification 186,057, [Class 15 (ii)]), by applying thereto as a resist a protein or albuminoid with or without a thickening agent and/or a colouring matter. The following examples are specified: (1) a cotton fabric is printed with a mixture of glue and tragacanth thickening, dried, padded with an aqueous bath containing the sodium salt of the disulphuric ester of leuco-Bz2 : Bz<1>2<1>-dimethoxydibenzanthrone, tragacanth thickening, sodium carbonate and sodium nitrite, dried, developed for 2--8 seconds in dilute sulphuric acid at 70 DEG C., rinsed, treated with boiling soap solution, rinsed and dried to obtain pure white resist effects on a green ground; (2) a cotton fabric is printed with an aqueous composition containing sodium carbonate, gelatine and commercial gum, dried, padded with an aqueous bath containing the sodium salt of the disulphuric ester of the leuco compound of the green vat dyestuff of example 1 of Specification 24604/08, [Class 2], tragacanth thickening, sodium carbonate and sodium nitrite, dried and developed as in (1) to obtain white resist effects on an olive ground; (3) a cotton fabric is printed with an aqueous composition containing sodium carbonate, gum and albumin, dried, padded with an aqueous bath containing the sodium salt of the disulphuric ester of leuco-dibenzpyrenequinone (cf. Specification 205,502, [Class 2 (iii)], alkali, thickening and sodium nitrite, dried and developed as in (1) to obtain white resist effects on a golden yellow ground; (4) a cotton fabric is printed with an aqueous paste containing glycerol, commercial gum, potassium carbonate, Hydrosulphite NF and gelatine and either dibenzpyrenequinone or Indanthrene brilliant rose R and the printed material is dried, steamed for 8 minutes, padded with an aqueous composition containing the sodium salt of the disulphuric ester of leuco-Bz2 : Bz<1>2<1>-dimethoxydibenzanthrone, tragacanth thickening, sodium carbonate and sodium nitrite, treated for 8 seconds in dilute sulphuric acid at 70 DEG C., rinsed, soaped and washed to obtain fast golden yellow or red resist effects on a green ground; (5) a cotton fabric is printed with an aqueous composition containing gelatine or glue, commercial gum, zinc oxide, and a solution in alcoholic soda of a commercial ice colour preparation containing either a diazoamino compound of 4-nitro-2-aminoanisol and the p-anisidide of 2 : 3-oxynaphthoic acid or a diazoamino compound of m-nitraniline and the anilide of 2 : 3-oxynaphthoic acid or a diazoamino compound of o-chloraniline and diacetoacetic-o-tolidide and the printed material is dried, treated for 5 minutes with steam containing acetic acid vapour, padded with a solution of the sodium salt of the disulphuric ester of leuco - Bz2 : Bz<1>2<1> - dimethoxydibenzanthrone and developed as in (1) to obtain bright red, orange or yellow effects on a green ground.
