Abstract
551,693. Dyeing and pigmenting textiles. CALICO PRINTERS' ASSOCIATION, Ltd., INGHAM, J. S., MILLER, W. S., and BURAWOY, A. Sept. 1. 1941. No. 11144. [Classes 2 (iii)'and 15 (ii)] The fixation on cellulosic textile materials of dyestuffs or pigments which have no affinity for such materials, or of dyestuffs which normally yield dyeings thereon of poor to moderate fastness to washing, is effected by the formation on the materials of a ketone-formaldehyde resin, whereby dyeings fast to washing are obtained. The materials may be impregnated with a ketone-formaldehyde resin precondensate in presence of alkali, e.g. sodium, potassium, calcium or barium hydroxide or sodium or potassium carbonate, dried, heated to form the water-insoluble resin, and thereafter dyed or printed and steamed to fix the print. Alternatively, the dyestuff may be applied prior to, or the dyestuff or pigment may be applied together with, the precondensate and the materials thereafter dried and steamed or otherwise heated. Specified ketones are acetone, methyl-ethyl ketone, cyclohexanone and diacetone alcohol. Direct, acid, basic or mordant dyes (without mordant), water-insoluble dyes which have a good affinity for cellulose acetate fibres and coloured or white organic or inorganic pigments may be used. In examples, (1) a cotton fabric is printed with an aqueous paste containing Chlorazol fast pink BK, glycerol and carragheen moss thickening and the print is dried, steamed, impregnated with an aqueous liquor containing sodium carbonate and an acetone-formaldehyde precondensate, dried, heated for 1 minute at 150‹C., lightly soaped, rinsed and dried ; (2) a viscose crepe fabric is impregnated with an aqueous liquor containing sodium carbonate and a precondensate as in (1.), dried, heated as in (1), washed, dried, printed with an aqueous paste containing Victoria blue R, glycerol and gum tragacanth thickening, dried, steamed and washed ; . (3) a viscose crepe fabric, impregnated dried, heated, washed and dried as in (2), is dyed with Duranol blue G; (4) a cotton fabric is impregnated with an aqueous liquor containing Oxyphenine GG. sodium carbonate and a precondensate as in (1), dried, heated for 1 minute at 150‹C., steamed and washed ; (5) a viscose fabric is printed with an aqueous paste containing Acid yellow G, sodium carbonate, a precondensate as in (1) and tragacanth thickening, steamed, washed and dried ; (6) a viscose fabric is printed with an aqueous paste containing Monolite fast yellow 10GS, sodium carbonate, a precondensate as in (1) and tragacanth thickening, dried, steamed, washed, dried, impregnated with an aqueous solution containing the same precondensate and sodium carbonate, dried, heated for 1 minute at 150‹C. and lightly soaped ; (7) a viscose fabric is impregnated with an aqueous liquor containing caustic soda and a methyl ethyl . ketoneformaldehyde precondensate, dried, heated for 1. minute at 160‹C., soured, soaped, dried and dyed with Duranel blue CB.
