Abstract

Printing.--Pastes for printing on cellulosic materials, to produce white resists under sulphuric esters of leuco vat dyestuffs, contain a quaternary ammonium salt, other than a derivative of a heterocyclic base, together with an alkali and/or a reducing agent. The following examples are specified: (1) Cotton cloth is printed with an aqueous paste containing British gum, dimethylbenzylphenylammonium chloride, potassium carbonate and sodium formaldehydesulphoxylate, dried, overprinted with an aqueous paste containing neutral starch tragacanth thickening, Soledon jade green, and sodium nitrite, again dried, steamed for 5--10 minutes, developed by passing through dilute sulphuric acid at 65 DEG C., washed and soaped at the boil; (2) Cotton cloth is printed with a resist paste as in (1), padded with an aqueous solution containing glycerol, gum tragacanth, Soledon jade green and sodium nitrite, dried and further treated as in (1); (3) Cotton cloth is printed with an aqueous paste containing British gum, dimethylbenzylphenylammonium chloride and sodium carbonate, dried, overprinted and further treated as in (1); (4) Cotton cloth is printed with an aqueous paste containing British gum, dimethylbenzylphenylammonium chloride and sodium formaldehydesulphoxylate, dried, padded and further treated as in (2); (5) Cotton is printed with an aqueous paste containing British gum, dimethylbenzylphenylammonium chloride, sodium carbonate and glucose, dried and either overprinted and further treated as in (1) or padded and further treated as in (2); (6) The material is printed with an aqueous paste containing British gum, dimethylbenzylphenylammonium chloride, potassium carbonate and potassium sulphite, dried, padded with an aqueous solution containing glycerol, gum tragacanth, Soledon jade green, Brenthol fast red GL and sodium nitrite, again dried, developed by passage through a solution at 85 DEG C. containing formic acid and common salt, washed and soaped at the boil. Specification 433,865 is referred to.
