474,520. Moving signs. MATTHEW, R. J., CLARK, E., SMITH, A. J., and MIZON, K. L. May 20, 1937, No. 14098. [Class 3 (i)] Two parallel endless chains 4 travelling round sprockets 5, 6 carried by parallel shafts 7, 8 have mounted between them on each link an outwardly extending member 11. Between each pair of adjacent members 11 is held removable by clips 15 a bendable display sheet 17. The tips of the members 11 in the course of their travel around the shafts 7, 8, anticlockwise in the Figure, come in succession into engagement with a catch and release device 16. On release from this device, the member 11 drops by gravity and stretches the display sheet between it and the following member so that it can be viewed through a window 3 in a casing 1. The members 11 may be in the form of frames carrying a cross-bar on which the clips 15 are mounted, or may have other configurations. The sheets 17 may be of fabric with a folding crease 18 attached to its rear at the middle, or may consist of two boards hinged together. The drive may be through the shaft 7 or by a push applied to the tips of the members 11, or by both these means. The catch and release device may consist of a star-wheel 16 driven in unison with the shaft 7, or may be a spring detent. The sheets 17 may carry objects for display. Lamps may be fitted and be adapted to be switched off temporarily by each member 11 during its fall. A pawl- and-ratchet on the sprockets 6 prevents backlash, and the chain 4 is tensioned.
