[Class 3 (i)] An intermittently changing sign comprises a plurality of display panels 4 rotatably carried by a plurality of parallel endless chains 18, 18<SP>1</SP> so disposed that a composite picture &c. is built up by adjacent aligned panels at a viewing window in a casing. Fig. 1 shows a front view of such aligned panels 4, and Fig. 2 a plan thereof. The chains 18, 18' pass around end sprockets 19 driven through bevel gearing 58, 59 from two lay-shafts 43, 44 connected by a shaft 45 and actuated at predetermined intervals by a motor 50 controlled by a time-switch 51. The panels 4 are supported by wheels 32, 30 running on upper and lower tracks 33, 31 and are mounted on projecting chain links 17 so as to have a rotary motion relative thereto biassed by a spiral spring 26, and are locked in register by solenoid controlled catches 56. On a fresh set of panels being brought to the window the motor 50 automatically stops for, say, one minute. Solenoids 54 are then automatically energized by the switch 51, thus drawing down an armature 55 which releases the catch 56 and allows the spring 26 to rotate the panel 4 through a half-turn to bring its rear to the display position. After another interval of, say, one minute, the motor 50 is again energized to move the chains 18, 18' till the next panels reach the window, when the above. sequence is repeated. The springs 26 are again tensioned by the panels 4 striking against a roller abutment 68 fixed at the rear end of the path of travel of the panels. As the panels 4 move step by step around, the rollers 68 turn them back through 180 degrees against the action of the springs 26 and they are held in their tensioned positions by the catches 56. The panels 4 may carry articles or portions thereof, or intermittently illuminated lamps.
