Abstract

473,572. Covers for vehicles; vehicle bumpers. CHARLESWORTH, G. H. E. Oct. 14, 1936, No. 27917. [Classes 103 (ii) and 108 (i)] In a vehicle cover which is carried on the vehicle as a unit in which a rolled up cover is mounted on a self-winding spindle within a casing, the spindle is accommodated in one section of a partitioned casing with an end projecting into another section where it is mounted for operation by gearing which is actuated by a shaft accommodated transversely of the casing and keyed to one end of a torsion spring. The holder comprises a casing a having a hinged lid b provided with bumper plates c on its exposed face. Rotatably mounted in the holder is a spindle d carrying an attached and rolled-up fabric cover e which is adapted to be drawn out over the vehicle and secured thereto to form a protecting cover. The spindle d is spring-biassed by means of a torsion spring m connected to the spindle d by gears j, h. When a wide cover is used its side edges are folded in before being rolled on the spindle d and its edges may be provided with securing eyelets.
