Description
2340143 FENCEPOST SLEEVE This invention relates to concrete fenceposts.
Concrete fenceposts cannot be easily drilled due to the nature of their construction.Any attempt at drilling could damage the post and/or the drill.Garden decorations or gardening utilities cannot be readily attached to this type of post.
Concrete posts differ slightly in construction depending on the manufacturer, although the principle of securing the fence panel is achieved by a standard method.
According to the present invention a sleeve is provided to cover the top of the post. The sleeve in itself will be a comfortable fit and will be able to support a weight relative to its size and the post it serves. Further stabilisation is provided by means of "wings" which key into the recess of the post and also straddle the fence panel. These wings may be an integral part of the body but greater flexibility can be obtained by making them adjustable.A range of attachments can be connected to the sleeve by means of moulding, clips, brackets or hooks. Although primarily designed to work in conjunction with concrete posts the sleeve is not excluded from use with wooden plastic or metal posts.
An object of this invention is to provide suitable anchorage for a plant pot or other type of plant container, as well as a range of hardware.
Preferably the invention is made of plastic but can be made from metal, wood or a combination of these materials.
A preferred embodiment of the invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawing in which:
FIGURE 1 shows a frontal view of the sleeve.
FIGURE 2 shows a side view of the sleeve.
FIGURE 3 shows a cross section of the frontal view.
FIGURE 4 shows a plan view of the sleeve.
FIGURE 5 shows a cross section of the plan view.
FIGURE 6 shows a perspective view of the sleeve.
FIGURE 7 shows the sleeve and an execution of a practical use.In this instance a plant container is moulded to the front of the sleeve.
2 As shown in FIGURE I the.sleeve comprises a main body I which has two connected wings 2.These wings are ribbed on the outer surface. The ribs are of such design that the components can be joined together or separated by a sliding motion, see FIGURE 6.The ribs are also designed so as to hold the components together when subjected to lateral forces. That is to say the components can only be joined or separated in the directions as shown.A series of holes 3 are provided in the body and the wings for securing to wooden posts and panels if necessary.
FIGURE 2 shows a side view.
FIGURE 3 demonstrates how the wings 2 intrude inside the body 1,When the sleeve is placed over a concrete post the wings will be able to key into the recess of the post to a varying degree depending on their location on the main body.Once in position the wings will sit astride the fence panel.
FIGURE 4 shows a plan view of the sleeve, FIGURE 5 shows a cross section of the plan view to reinforce the idea of how the wings 2 will accommodate the varying widths of concrete posts.
Claims (6)
1. A fencepost sleeve provided to cover the top of a post, capable in construction to be able to support a load attached to it,for decorative or practical purposes.
2. A fencepost sleeve as described in claim 1 with attached wings to assist in supporting the main body 1 to post or fence panel.
3. A fencepost sleeve as in claim 1 and claim 2 wherein the wings 2 may be adjusted to accommodate a variety of widths and styles of post.
4. A fencepost sleeve as in the preceding claims wherein holes are provided in the main body 1 and the wings 2 so as to provide extra securement.
5. A fencepost sleeve as in any preceding claim which can have attached to it by moulding, clip, bracket or otherwise, items for decorative or practical purposes.
6. A fencepost sleeve substantially as described herein with reference to the accompanying drawings.
