Abstract

A self-locking collar attachable to concrete fence posts allowing the hanging of garden ornaments such as hanging baskets. The collar may be constructed from rod-like material and be substantially rectangular in shape, comprising two hooks or ears and having a v-shaped projecting nose. The self-locking feature may be provided by cantilever action on the collar by a supported load. Application of the collar may be from the user's side of the fence and use of the collar should not cause damage to the post. The collar may also be used to support shelf brackets. If brackets are supported on adjacent fence posts, this may provide a platform for shelving.

Description

2401391
SELF LOCKING COLLAR FOR CONCRETE
FENCING POSTS.
THE INVENTION RELATES TO A COLLAR THAT CAN
EASILY BE ATTACHED TO CONCRETE GARDEN
FENCING POSTS FOR THE PURPOSE OF SUPPORTING
GARDEN FURNISHING SUCH AS HANGING BASKETS
OR WHICH CAN BE SUPPLEMENTED BY SHEET
METAL SHELF BRACKETS.
THE FIXING OF GARDEN ORNAMENTS OR SUPPORT
WIRES TO CONCRETE FENCING POSTS IS ONEROUS
DUE TO THE NATURE OF THE REINFORCING IN
THE CONCRETE. DRILLING IS VERY DIFFICULT, NOT BEING A TASK FOR THE AMATEUR, EVEN IF
ELECTRICITY IS AVAILABLE FOR THE USE OF
POWER TOOLS. A PARTICULAR APPLICATION IS IN
THE CASE OF PANEL TYPE RECESSED CONCRETE
FENCING POSTS.
AN OBJECT OF THIS INVENTION IS TO PROVIDE A
COLLAR THAT IS READILY ATTACHED, ( WITHOUT THE USE OF TOOLS), TO POPULAR CONCRETE
RECESSED FENCING POSTS ALLOWING THE FREE
USE OF GARDEN ORNAMENTS SUCH AS HANGING
BASKETS.
ACCORDING TO THE PRESENT INVENTION, USING ROD MATERIAL, THERE IS PROVIDED A COLLAR OF RECTANGULAR CONSTRUCTION, WITH SUITABLE CLEARANCE, THE CENTRE PORTION OF LONG SIDE MISSING, (FORMING EARS). ON THE OPPOSITE LONG SIDE IS A PROJECTING NOSE, ( VEE SHAPED), POINTING AWAY FROM THE BASIC RECTANGLE. THE
COLLAR CAN BE SLIPPED OVER THE TOP OF THE
POST ON THE USERS SIDE, THE EARS LOCATING IN
THE POST RECESSES SLID DOWN TO TO THE
REQUIRED POSITION & ANY SUBSEQUENT CANTILEVER
VERTICAL DOWNARD LOAD CAUSES A WEDGING
ACTION FIRMLY LOCKING THE COLLAR IN PLACE.
REMOVAL OF THE LOAD IMMEDIATELY RELEASES
THE COLLAR FOR REPOSITIONING.
A SPECIFIC EMBODIMENT OF THE INVENTION WILL
NOW BE DESCRIBED BY WAY OF EXAMPLE WITH
REFERENCE TO THE ACCOMPANYING DRAWING IN
WHICH: FIGURE 1 SHOWS IN PERSPECTIVE THE COLLAR IN
