Abstract
472,372. Paper - folding machines. BREHMER, GEB. Feb. 1, 1937, No. 2928. Convention date, Feb. 1, 1936. [Class 100 (i)] In a sheet-folding machine having a buckling-folder section, a positivelydriven feeding member or members supplementary to the feed rolls proper is or are interposed between the fold plates 12 to engage the sheet and facilitate its passage between the plates towards the sheet stops while permitting the portion of the sheet engaged thereby to reverse its movement as the sheet is folded. Each feeding member may consist of a band, roller, or rotary brush, and may co-operate with another member, one or both of the members being driven positively. In the form shown, co-operating brushes 24, 25 are employed, the lower one being driven by a belt connection, and the upper one being driven by contact with the lower one. The shaft 26 of the brush 24 is carried by a cranked lever 27 pivoted to a block 28 adjustable lengthwise of the plates 12, the position of the brush being adjusted relatively to the block by means of a bolt 30 attached to the lever 27 and passing through a lug 32 on the block 28 with an interposed spring 34a on one side and a nut 33 on the other side. A lever 50 carrying the shaft of the upper brush 25 is pivoted to a bracket 45 adjustable transversely of a rod 51 and having a set-screw 44 engaging the lever 50 to determine the position of the brush relatively to the brush 24. The rod 51 is itself capable of adjustment longitudinally of the plates 12, by means of a sleeve thereon embracing a rod 18 and secured thereto by a set-screw. Where two or more pairs of brushes are employed, the levers 50 carrying the upper brushes are all mounted on the same bar 51. Rollers having surfaces which are smooth and hard or are coated with felt or rubber may be used in place of the brushes.
