[Class 100 (i)] A device for feeding webs of fabric, paper, or the like into machines, particularly into textile machines, comprises at each side of the web a feeding member driven by the machine, this feeding member having zones or sections of which the diameters progressively. increase towards the side of the device, and a presser member engaging the feeding member and mounted for longitudinal movement parallel to the axis of the feeding member, the web edges passing between the feeding and presser members whereby the web is fed at a linear speed corresponding to the peripheral speed of the circumferences of the zones or sections of the feeding members with which the edges of the web are held in contact by the presser members. The device is shown as applied to a tentering-machine, and comprises a roll 1 driven at constant speed by the machine, and having mounted thereon at each end a conical sleeve 2 which rotates with the roll but is adjustable axially thereof. A presser member, adapted to co-operate with each sleeve 2, and which may be a roller 3, is mounted at one end of a pivoted bell-crank lever 4, the other end of the lever being weighted so that the roller 3 holds the edge of the web in contact with the sleeve 2. The presser member is displaceable by screw means 6, 7, in a direction parallel to the axis of the roll 1 whereby the edge of the web can be pressed against any portion of the conical sleeve 2. The web, after leaving the sleeves 2, passes over a roll 8 driven from the roll 1, and then circular brushes (not shown) which rub against the roll 8 press the web on to pins on chains 11. Instead of rollers, the presser members 3 could comprise narrow endless bands, and theconical sleeves 2 could be replaced by a series of discs of different diameters.
