Abstract
472,296. R÷ntgen -ray apparatus. SIEMENS-REINIGER-WERKE AKT.-GES. Feb. 10, 1937, No. 3980. Convention date, Feb. 18, 1936. [Class 39 (i)] [Also in Group XX] A R÷ntgen-ray tube operating under high voltage is connected directly to the source of A.C. voltage, is contained in a protective casing filled with an insulating medium, e.g. oil, one electrode being connected to the outer earthed side of the casing, and is surrounded throughout its length by annular metal bodies arranged so that due to their mutual capacities the potential distribution within the casing corresponds to the natural distribution of potential along the tube. Suitable tubes are those having double walls, thick walls, or electron hoods and the natural distribution of potential may be made linear by known means. The annular metal bodies 18 are preferably insulated, e.g. by paper wrappings, and may be thickened at the edges to avoid brush discharge. The metal bodies 18a, 18b at the ends of the tube may be connected to the anode and cathode respectively. If desired, stepped potentials may be applied to the intermediate metal bodies. A vessel of insulating material, e.g. porcelain or synthetic resin may separate the tube from the annular bodies.
