472,243. Hydraulic transmission of power. SCHNEIDER, E. Dec. 13, 1935, No. 34683. Void. Convention date, Dec. 13, 1934. [Class 69 (ii)] Hydraulic power transmission apparatus comprises a pump and motor, and is adapted to function as a coupling or gear. The capacity of the pump, or both pump and motor, may be varied either manually or automatically ; in the latter case, the variation may be effected by means controlled in accordance with the speed of the driven shaft. In the form shown in Fig. 1, the cylinder of the pump I is carried by the driving shaft 3, and its piston is connected to a variable-throw crank on the driven shaft 4. A passage 6 leads to the motor I<1> whose piston is connected to a crank on the shaft 4<1>. The device acts as a coupling if the passage 6 be closed ; a releasable clutch 22, brake 23, and reversing or change-speed gear 24 are also provided. In another form, both pump and motor are of the gear wheel type, and their capacities are varied by sliding the wheels 9 9<1>, Fig. 3. Another form has a common cylinder block for both pump and motor, geared to the driven shaft 4, as shown in Fig. 4, the shaft 3 carries a swash plate acting on the pump pistons 14, while the motor pistons act on a stationary swash plate, the inclinations of the swash plates being adjustable. In a modification, the shaft 3 carries an annular rotor 1 by rods 25, Fig. 7. On this rotor is mounted a tiltable pump cylinder block. The motor is similar, and both blocks are adjustable by rods 15, 16, 17, while a reversing valve 29 is provided in the passage 6.
