Abstract

371,040. Hydraulic variable speed gearing. BEDFORD, J., Lucerne, Old Bedford Road, and PARK, M. C., 54, Havelock Road, both in Luton. Oct. 6, 1930, No. 6349/32. Divided on 370,915. [Class 69 (ii).] In a hydraulic gear comprising a pump and motor each of variable capacity arranged so that the pump capacity increases as that of the motor diminishes, the driving shaft carries the pump cylinders, the driven shaft carries the motor cylinders and means for reciprocating the pump pistons, and a stationary member carries means for reciprocating the motor pistons. The pump and motor pistons carry rollers 11, Figs. 1 and 2, retained in contact with rings 9a, 10a, 9b, 10b by keep rings 15 engaging pivoted stirrups 243, the rings 9a, 10a being carried from the motor cylinder block 4b, and the rings 9b, 10b by the fixed casing 3. Slidable members 247, 248, Fig. 3, operated from a collar 255 have cam members 250 engaging slots in the rings 9a &c. for varying the eccentricity thereof. The pump cylinders have automatic inlet and outlet valves 36, 37, and the motor cylinders have ports 40, 41 co-operating with ports in a non- rotary sleeve 43 ; axial movement of the sleeve reverses the drive.
