Cluthes and speed-varying mechanism. - An oblique disc 14 secured to the driving shaft 9 engages bearing members 25, 24 mounted on pistons 15 and piston extensions 19. The pistons are hollow, and have valves 16 and ports 17; the cylinders are formed in a revoluble body and have ports 27 adapted to coact with the ports 17, and the circulation of liquid between the cylinders and a chamber 28 is controlled by a plunger 32 connected to a tiltable ring 34. The cylinder body is keyed to a pinion 39, a direct drive being obtained when a pinion 41 keyed to the driven shaft 8 meshes with the pinion 39; a reverse drive is obtained through pinions 40 and an internally-toothed gear 42, when a brake 46 is applied to the casing 52, and the pinion 41 is moved into contact with the member 45 carrying the gear 42.
