Abstract
413,258. Hydraulic transmission of power. VIGNAU, C. E. M., 5, Rue Dunoir, Lyons, France. Oct. 5, 1932, No. 27708. Void [Abridged as open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, Oct. 8, 1932]. [Class 69 (ii).] A hydraulic variable-speed gear in which there is no reversal of flow in the pump and motor cylinders, comprises alternating pump and motor cylinders the pistons or plungers of which are connected to rings 27 mounted on discs 25 fixed to the driving and driven shafts. The plungers are of smaller diameter than their cylinders, carry guide members 15, 16 and work through collars 13, 14. The cylinders communicate with central chambers 9, 10, through ports 5 ... 8, under the control of sleeve valves 18, 19, driven by pinions 20, 22. The inclination of the pump-disc 25 may be varied by means of a member 31 controlled by a spring responsive to the resistance offered by the pump. Reversal of the apparatus is produced when the pinion 22 is rotated through one-quarter of a revolution by a rod centrally-disposed in the driven shaft. The apparatus may be uncoupled by means of a brake 34 on the crankcase 33, whilst a byepass valve, which may be operated by the driven shaft may also be provided in the partition between the chambers 9, 10. A member for closing the parts of one of the latter chambers may also be provided whereby the whole apparatus may be made to rotate as a unit.
