Abstract

454,149. Variable-speed gearing. WILSON, A. G., 22, Old Queen Street, Westminster. Jan. 21, 1935, No. 1997. [Class 80 (ii)] The brake bands 9 of an epicyclic variablespeed gear are selectively operated by fluid pressure on pistons 27, the pressure fluid being controlled by a distributing valve 43. A direct drive clutch 4, 5 is also actuated by fluid pressure on a number of small pistons o spaced around the driving shaft f with their axes parallel to the shaft and coupled by rods s to a stationary ring w which operates, through a ball thrust bearing x, a clutch member k. Alternatively to the pistons o a single annular piston may be used to operate the clutch 4, 5. Specifications 220,021, 309,425, [both in Class 103 (i)], and 402,778 are referred to.
