428,000. Hydraulic transmission of power. KERR, R. C., 346, Nairn Avenue, Winnipeg, Canada. July 6, 1934, No. 19883. [Class 69 (ii)] In a variable-speed hydraulic transmission of the type having a rotary cylinder 1, Fig. 1, a piston 18 slidably mounted on the driven shaft and having a cam and groove connection with the cylinder, and valve means for controlling the passage of liquid from one end of the cylinder to the other, the hollow end portion of the driven shaft 13 has ports 29 and tapered ports 30, the latter being controlled by a sleeve valve 31 axially movable by connections 35, 36, Fig. 6, from a plate 38 operated by a lever 42. The piston 18 works on guiding ribs 19 on the driven shaft rotatably mounted in a fixed end casing 9. The cylinder is driven through epicyclic gearing in a fixed casing at the other end, a lever 66 being provided for moving a clutch plate to determine whether forward, reverse, or no drive is transmitted.
