Abstract

470,828. Controlling change - speed gearing. LANCASHIRE DYNAMO & CRYPTO, Ltd., and SHAW, C. R. Feb. 21, 1936, No. 5271. [Class 80 (ii)] Change-speed gearing for power-driven foodpreparing machines comprises a multiple gear 4a, Fig. 3, moved to change speed through a crank arm 16 from a hand lever 9 which also controls a main clutch (not shown). The lever 9 is connected to the crank arm 16 by a bush 7, Fig. 4, which turns to shift the multiple gear through a sliding fork 19 when the lever 9 is swung in a longitudinal gate slot 12a, Fig. 3. The multiple gear 4a is held in its three gear positions by the lever 9 engaging one of three cross slots 12b, 12c, 12d. To change speed, the lever 9 is first lifted out of its cross slot, which pulls downwards of Fig. 4, a pin 10 which passes through the bush 7 and engages a bell crank 13. The bell crank 13 is thus rocked left of Fig. 3, carrying a muff 3 in the same direction which opens the clutch through suitable means. The lever 9 is then swung in the long slot 12a to shift the gear 4a, and is returned into another cross slot, which engages the clutch for driving.
