Abstract

369,364. Hydraulic transmission of power. ARCHDALE & CO., Ltd., J. and JEWS BURY, J., Ledsam Street, Birming- ham. Feb. 28, 1931, No. 6347. [Class 69 (ii).] Means for co-ordinating the movements of hydraulically actuated pistons, applicable to metal cutting machines, comprises a regulating valve or valves controlled by the pistons, the arrangement being such that a predetermined relation between or equality of the speeds of the pistons may be obtained. In the form shown in Fig. 1, the pistons b are connected to racks k engaging a pinion carried by a member i. When the piston speeds depart from equality, the member i is moved to operate a valve g to throttle the exhaust from one cylinder c. When the pistons are to make their return strokes, pump connections at d, e are interchanged to reverse the flow, and valves f thereby hydraulically actuated, so that the valve g acts on the supply to the cylinders. When the piston speeds are to bear a predetermined relation to one another, the racks k each engage one of a pair of pinions j differing in diameter. In modifications, the valve g may be operated by differential gear mechanism, or by connection to a lever l, Fig. 2, having its ends connected to the pistons.
