Abstract
389,556. Remote control apparatus. MULLINS, E. E. E., 11, Thornfields Road, Heaton Moor, Stockport. Oct. 28, 1931, No. 29829. [Class 79 (v).] A remote control apparatus on motor driven boats and the like for controlling the engine, reverse gear, and like operating parts, comprises a primary unit having a handlever operating two pistons in the fluid container system which effect the movement of pistons in a second receiving member and either directly or indirectly effect the operation of a gear lever and the engine throttle. The hand-lever 7 on a shaft 6 is adapted to move in opposite directions pistons 3, 4 in cylinders 1, 2 which are connected by pipe lines 18, 16 with receiving units 17, 19 and cylinders 13, 14 containing similar pistons 15. The movement of the hand-lever results in the movement of a pin 25 connected to the secondary pistons and this pin may directly actuate the part to be controlled. As shown, the pin is utilized to move a valve gear which controls connections with the induction pipe of the motor by a pipe 31 and with the outer atmosphere. This valve gear in turn effects thereby a movement of the servo-motor piston 21 in a cylinder 20. The piston 21 has a rod 22 which is coupled at 23 to the reverse gear. An extension on the other side projects into a cylinder 47 which by means of a fluid column operates an indicator 51 showing the gear positions. In addition the pipe lines 16, 18 have branch leads 63, 64 which are coupled to members 62 leading to piston and cylinder devices having a projecting rod member 61 which contacts with a pivoted lever 68 in turn coupled by a rod 69 to the throttle lever. The action of this apparatus is such that when the controls are moved to change the reverse gear from forward to reverse or vice versa, the throttle is closed down and the engine runs light.
