Abstract

343,367. Hydraulic transmission of power. ARCHDALE & CO., Ltd., J. and JEWSBURY, J., Ledsam Street, Birmingham. April 1, 1930, No. 10301. [Class 69 (ii)]. Hydraulically operated drilling and other machines comprise a reservoir e, Fig. 1, a constant capacity pump c, a variable capacity pump d and a controlling valve or valves, the working cycle being as follows, viz. (1) when the machine is at rest, the pump c discharges directly into the reservoir, and the pump d discharges through the cylinder b or a channel connected thereto, (2) during the working stroke, the pump d discharges into one end of the cylinder, and the pump c into the exhaust g, Fig. 3, from the other end, and (3) during the return stroke, the pump c discharges into the cylinder and the pump d to exhaust as shown in Fig. 4. The initial part of the working stroke may be effected rapidly by causing both pumps to deliver into one end of the cylinder as shown in Fig. 2. The control may be effected by a pair of valves i, k, Fig. 5, which are shown in the position requisite for effecting the mode of operation shown in Fig. 2. These valves are operated by liquid supplied from a pump l under the control of a valve j which may be operated manually or from a moving part of the machine, and liquid from the pump l may be used to operate a clutch or other part of the machine.
