Abstract
471,209. Washing granular materials. BLANTYRE ENGINEERING CO., Ltd., and KERR, W. March 6, 1936, No. 6777. [Class 82 (ii)] The amplitude of the pulsations in a jig washer of the Baum type is controlled by the movements of a float which rises and falls with a. water column in a stand pipe communicating with the water in the washer below the grating and which is connected directly or indirectly with an air release valve in the main air supply line. In the form shown in Fig. 1, the spindle 4 of a float 3 which is located in a stand pipe 2 passes through a guide boss 5 and is provided with spaced strikers 6 which engage one arm 7 of a bellcrank, the other arm 11 of which acts, through a link 12, on an air release valve in a valve chest 15 in the main air supply line. The stand pipe 2 is provided with an air release cock 17 and a manually adjustable butterfly valve 18, by adjustment of which the stroke of the float mav be controlled. In the form shown in Fig. 3, the float spindle 4 is connected directly to the actuating arm 19 of the movable element of a lantern-type air release valve 20. The operation of the air release valve may, alternatively, be effected electrically by the provision of a switch actuated by the float spindle and a solenoid or electromagnet.
