Abstract
471,182. Cutting sweetmeats. STEVENS, P. A. Jan. 30, 1936, No. 2763. [Class 87 (ii)] In a guillotine cutting-machine, the knife 5 is driven by a shaft 4 coupled to a driven flywheel 10 by a clutch engaged by a spring- controlled hand lever 17 and automatically disengaged at the end of a series of cutting operations by a projection 27 on a board 28 supporting the substance to be cut, the projection 27 rocking a two-armed lever 22, 25 against a spring 26 and out of engagement with the hand lever 17. The clutch comprises a boss 13 slidable on the shaft 4 to rock levers 12 and cams 12b to expand a shoe 11 into engagement with the flywheel 10 ; the boss 13 can engage a bearing 9 to lock the shaft 4.
